Martinez key in Besic transfer

Last Updated: Tue, 29 Jul 2014 09:43

Everton's new signing Muhamed Besic says that the chance to work with Roberto Martinez was the reason he joined the club.

The Bosnia and Herzegovina midfielder enjoyed a good World Cup in Brazil which led to plenty of increased speculation he would be leaving Ferencvaros, especially after he kept Lionel Messi relatively quiet in their match against Argentina.

Born in Germany, he began his professional career at Hamburg before transferring to Ferencvaros two years ago and he has now moved on to Everton on a five-year deal, although the fee remains undisclosed.

"The most important reason why I signed for Everton was Roberto Martinez - I think he is a fantastic coach," the youngster told the club's official website.

"I know Everton is a really traditional club and the supporters are fantastic here. I think it is the biggest step for me after leaving Hungary."
