Everton boss David Moyes took a scouting trip to Holland to watch Vitesse Arnhem midfielder Marco van Ginkel in action on Sunday.
The Toffees' manager flew out of Manchester airport to Amsterdam early on Sunday morning and returned on the late flight after seeing van Ginkel, 20, impress in his side's 2-1 win over PEC Zwolle.
Moyes is on the lookout for talented midfielders having almost signed Leroy Fer from Twente in January before the deal was called off when problems arose in the medical examination.
The Scot has still to commit himself to Everton for next season but continues to scout talent and appears to be targeting the latest crop of Dutch players.
Van Ginkel, is rated in the £8million bracket by his club, who have him tied down to a contract until 2015, but there has been rival interest from Benfica recently.
Benfica techical director Rui Costa watched van Ginkel in action last month.
