The agent of Barnsley starlet John Stones has denied reports of a January move, with Everton showing an interest in the full-back.

The 18-year-old is a product of the club's youth academy and made his debut for the Tykes towards the end of last season.

He has established himself in the side this campaign and his form has attracted interest from a number of top flight clubs.

Reports on Friday suggested that Everton were among a number of top flight clubs interested in bringing the full-back to the Premier League - even as soon as the January transfer window.

However, his agent Georgina Lillis has moved quickly to play down reports of an imminent move, insisting Stones will not be going anywhere in the short term.

"There has been a lot of unwanted paper talk with regards to John and it doesn't benefit the club and it doesn't benefit John," Lillis told Sky Sports.

"Just because a scout is seen in the stands it doesn't mean a player is on the move next window.

"John is at a point in his career where he needs to be playing first team football and to keep developing as a player. Barnsley is doing just that and valuable experience with England is helping him progress.

"Of course John wants to play in the Premier League but what's most important, at this stage, is that he doesn't get his head turned and keeps working hard and improving."
