Posh director of football Barry Fry has denied reports claiming Everton have enquired about goalkeeper Joe Lewis.

The England Under-21 international will be part of the squad for Monday night's European Championship final against Germany in Sweden and there had been claims Goodison Park chief David Moyes had contacted the London Road outfit.

But Fry has rejected the speculation although he admits the former Norwich youngster would be able to make the step up into the Premier League.

He told the Evening Telegraph: "I've had no conversation with Everton or any other club about Joe which is a surprise because he is forever being linked with Premier League teams.

"He's certainly good enough to play at that level, but there is no question of us wanting to sell him. He's a big part of what we are trying to achieve here.

"Joe has a big reputation in the game and playing for England can only improve that."
