Paul Scharner has claimed he turned down the chance to follow Roberto Martinez out of Wigan to join Everton this summer.
Martinez has already signed Arouna Kone, Joel Robles and Antolin Alcaraz from his old club during the current transfer window and now veteran Scharner has said he was also wanted at Goodison Park by the Spaniard.
The Austrian international, 33, who re-joined Wigan on loan last season, has returned to Bundesliga side Hamburg and has now decided to stay there for the coming campaign after apparently rejecting the chance of a three-year contract at Everton.
"I could've earned twice as much in England. In May, after the FA Cup triumph with Wigan, Everton offered me a three-year deal," he has been quoted as saying.
