Everton are believed to be planning a move for Spartak Moscow winger Aiden McGeady with a fee of around £4m being mooted.
The Republic of Ireland international claims he is happy in Russia despite reports to the contrary, but his club have done nothing to dispel the on-going rumours about his future and a switch to the Premier League may now be on the cards.
Spartak have admitted that they are bracing themselves for bids for the 27-year-old, who is entering the final 12 months of his contract, and they don't want to run the risk of losing him for nothing.
The potential availability of the former Celtic man has therefore alerted Toffees boss Roberto Martinez as he bids to strengthen his team out wide.
Martinez previously tried to sign McGeady for Wigan but he is more hopeful about his chances of tempting the player to join Everton, although other top-flight teams are likely to be interested as well.
