Yakubu is hoping to be involved in the Everton squad at Fulham on Sunday as he is ready to 'entertain' after a nine-month absence.
The Nigerian international hitman has been told by Toffees boss David Moyes that the severity of his Achilles injury which sidelined him means he will have to be gradually eased back into the first-team picture in the coming weeks.
However, Yakubu, who scored on his 70-minute return for the reserves and then got 15 minutes of European action at Sigma Olomouc last month, is looking to be handed another spell on the pitch to build up his match fitness, starting at Craven Cottage this weekend.
Yakubu told the Post: "It's good to be back involved again as nine months out was just too long. I just want to play and entertain again and with a few more games I'm sure I will be fine.
"It's been frustrating being out - really, it's been hell watching from the stands and on television. Now I just want to play injury-free for a long time.
"We'll just have to see how everything goes. Mentally I feel sharp and I know that the players are behind me.
"I have my confidence and I am going to work hard in training."
