Exeter goalkeeper Rhys Evans is relieved to be back playing football after admitting he thought his career was over.

The 30-year-old made his Grecians debut in the midweek victory over Barnet to make his first appearance in 18 months following a knee injury.

He suffered a cartilage tear while at previous club Southend but his recovery was lengthened after undergoing incorrect treatment.

"Somewhere along the line I got sent down the wrong road," he told BBC South West Sport.

"At Christmas I thought that was me done for."

On making his return to action, he added: "It was very much a relief and it was a moment I'd been aiming for, and looking forward to, for a long time."
