Barr sets sights high

FalkirkScotland debutant Darren Barr says turning out at Hampden Park was 'very special' but admits he still has to improve as a player.

The Falkirk star became the first Bairns player in almost 50 years to play for his country when they took on Northern Ireland last night, but the defender is refusing to get carried away.

"Walking on to Hampden was a brilliant feeling. I loved it," Barr revealed. "It was very special feeling making my debut and it was an honour to get on.

"There were definitely some nerves but sometimes they get you through a game. I will go back to training at Falkirk and I'm sure the boys will cane me as usual. It will be back to normal.

"But you want to be doing well for your club because you never know what's round the corner in football.

"It's only one game but it was definitely an opportunity for me to stake my claim for a place in the Scotland squad for the World Cup qualifiers. But I need to get my head down and not take anything for granted.

"I'm only 23 and I want to progress as a player at Falkirk and with Scotland. If I don't get my head down, it won't happen."
