Eddie May is set to bring Pedro Moutinho back to Falkirk as he bids to bolster the squad ahead of the new SPL campaign.
May, who was installed as John Hughes' replacement on Tuesday, has already lost Michael Higdon to St Mirren and he wants to start strengthening his ranks to avoid a repeat of last season's fight for survival.
Portuguese hitman Moutinho, who left the Bairns after four seasons last summer, is now set to return from Maritimo in his homeland.
He told the Daily Record: "I've been speaking to Falkirk. I want to go back and they want to me to go back so hopefully it will happen.
"I've spoken to Eddie May and George Craig so we are close to an agreement but I need to get myself released from my current club.
"I will be speaking to the Maritimo president on Friday to agree on a financial settlement and then I'll be heading back to Falkirk where I still have a house.
"The reason I left was for the chance to play in the UEFA Cup and the financial package on offer was too good to turn down. I'm excited at the chance to return to Falkirk."
Meanwhile May says he will be very busy in the market given that there are 14 players out of contract at the club this summer.
He added: "There's a need to add quality to the team. We're short of what's required as far as squad numbers are concerned.
"The aim is to build a squad which is capable of surviving in the SPL."
