The Ferrari driver had led early on before the chaotic pit stop that saw him leave his team's area with the fuel hose sticking out of the top of car and forced the technicians to comically sprint down the pit to detatch the pipe so he could continue.
Alonso benefited from an early stop on lap 12 and a later safety car period that meant he didn't have to stop for fuel and tyres while others did.
He held on to record his first victory since last year's Italian Grand Prix ahead of Rosberg, while Hamilton's third place stretches his lead over Massa with just three races of the season remaining.
Toyota's Timo Glock was fourth ahead of Toro Rosso's Sebastian Vettel, BMW Sauber's Nick Heidfeld, Red Bull's David Coulthard and Williams's Kazuki Nakajima.
