BMW stick with what they know

Formula 1It has been announced that Robert Kubica and Nick Heidfeld will both return as drivers for BMW Sauber in 2009.

The news means that Fernando Alonso will now not be joining the team after being heavily tipped for a switch of car at the end of the current season.

Alonso will probably stay at Renault as struggling Honda are the only other team currently courting his services and the Spaniard has already stated that he will announce his future plans at the conclusion of the current campaign.

BMW Motorsport director Mario Theissen confirmed the news about his plans for next year, saying: "We are in no doubt that we will again achieve our ambitious aims with them in the team's fourth year."

Austrian Christian Klien will also stay on as the team's test and reserve driver.

BMW are sitting in third place in the constructors' championship with little chance of catching the big two - Ferrari and McLaren - with just three races remaining.
