Montezemolo slates Singapore 'circus'

Formula 1Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo has slammed the Singapore Grand Prix and backs the team to bounce back in the next three races.

Felipe Massa had started the race from pole but could only manage 13th, while team-mate Kimi Raikkonen crashed out as Lewis Hamilton extended his lead at the top of the standings to seven points after a third-place finish behind Fernando Alonso and Nico Rosberg.

There were two safety-car interventions in the sport's first night race, while drivers complained of a bumpy track which made overtaking difficult.

Montezemolo, who had been critical of street circuits before the weekend, did not hide his anger at Sunday's proceedings and told Gazzetta dello Sport: "When we race on tracks which should be used for the circus, anything can happen.

"This is humiliating for F1 and it is an aspect I want to talk about with the other teams in the next few weeks."

However, he adamantly believes Ferrari will still prove successful come the end of the season and added: "It was a bitter day, but there are three races left and I have faith in all of Ferrari's men. We saw that last year in the final race in Brazil.

"Ferrari went through times much more difficult than this. I expect Massa and Raikkonen to always finish first and second in the three remaining races. In any case, ahead of McLaren."
