Formula 1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone feels it would be a "disaster" if the proposed 'breakaway' championship started next year.
The news broke last week that eight teams are threatening to form a breakaway series next season due to unresolved differences with world motorsport's governing body, the FIA.
The teams involved feel FIA president Max Mosley is running the sport in an autocratic and arbitrary way and reports suggest that his removal would be enough for the breakaway plans to be halted.
Meetings are due this week to discuss the issue that threatens to tear apart the sport and Ecclestone is determined to resolve any issues that might cause the break-up of his beloved Formula 1.
"My marriage broke up because of Formula 1," he told The Times newspaper. "I am sure as hell not going to let things disintegrate.
"If (a breakaway) started, everybody would be suing everybody else and there would be no other series.
"There would be nothing. It would be finished - it would be a total disaster. Everyone would spend a fortune on lawyers and nothing will happen."
