Cottagers eye USA hero

Fulham are said to be keen on USA striker Jozy Altidore, who scored in his country's shock 2-0 Confederations Cup win over Spain.

Fulham boss Roy Hodgson is believed to be a big fan of the 19-year-old and is ready to offer him a chance in the Premier League after he struggled to establish himself at Spanish side Villarreal.

Altidore, who scored America's first goal in the semi-final win over European champions Spain on Wednesday, spent much of last season on loan at Xerez but would relish a move to England.

Clint Dempsey, meanwhile, scored the second USA goal in the Confederations Cup victory as the Cottagers' striker continued his good form out in South Africa.

The strike was his second of the tournament following the crucial header he managed in the 3-0 win over Egypt on Sunday.
