Fulham are working hard to secure a loan deal for Roma goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg before the transfer window closes.

The Premier League side are severely lacking in options between the posts, with David Stockdale out on loan at Hull City and 41-year-old Mark Schwarzer drawing towards the end of his career.

The Dutch international has made clear his desire to move away from the Italian club after struggling to command a first-team place over the last few months.

Mauro Goicoechea has taken the number one spot with the Serie A club, leaving the the former Ajax man frustrated with his role.

Martin Jol has previously worked with keeper during his time managing Ajax in 2009.

Rob Jansen, Stekelenburg's agent has hinted that his player could be on the way to Craven Cottage on deadline day.

"We work very hard to get a deal," Jansen told De Telegraaf.
