Fulham agree record fee for Mitroglou

Last Updated: Thu, 30 Jan 2014 08:16

Fulham have agreed a club-record fee in the region of £12.5million with Olympiakos for Greek international striker Kostas Mitroglou.

Fulham have been holding talks with Olympiakos all week and edged closer to a deal late on Wednesday night after settling on a fee, believed to be in excess of the £11.5million former boss Jean Tigana paid Lyon for Steve Marlet in 2001.

Mitroglou was being targeted by the likes of Arsenal and Liverpool earlier this season when he scored a Champions League hat-trick against Anderlecht and was scouted by all the top clubs during the World Cup play-offs in November.

The Greek international has scored 17 goals in 19 games for Olympiakos this season and Fulham will be hoping he can make a big impact as they are languishing in the drop-zone after Tuesday's 2-0 defeat at Swansea.
