Fulham are planning a £2.5million raid for Standard Liege midfielder William Vainqueur, but are also tracking some Anderlecht stars.

Vainqueur, 23, is just over a year into a five-year contract with Standard, but has been impressive this season and scored the winner at the weekend in front of a Fulham scout.

The Cottagers were also represented at last night's Champions League clash between Anderlecht and Zenit St Petersburg in which the main targets were understood to be midfielders.

Lucas Biglia, 26, Dennis Praet, 18, and Massimo Bruno, 19, all started for Anderlecht and were also watched by Liverpool, Everton and Sunderland.

Argentina international Biglia has been linked with several Premier League clubs in the past but could be available for a move at the right price in the January window.

Fulham boss Martin Jol has been on the lookout for a midfielder to replace Mousse Dembele and may have found a suitable replacement in Vainqueur.

The Frenchman's agent Nico Vaesen said: "Fulham's style suits. They've a Dutch coach who likes a passing game."
