Fulham appear to have missed out on the signing of Junior Malanda, who looks set to join Wolfsburg and be loaned back to Zulte-Waregem.
Fulham may have pulled out of the race in the wake of concerns about their acquisition of French teenager Ange-Freddy Plumain, but Malanda had been targeted from last season and was recently in London for talks.
The 20-year-old freed himself from his deal at Zulte-Waregem by using Belgian employment law and the reports claiming he is to return to the club for next season on loan could be Wolfsburg's way of heading off any trouble from the Belgians in the future.
Newspaper Sudpresse claim the Belgian Under-21 star will undergo medical tests with the Bundesliga club and be loaned straight back to his former club, who face PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League on Tuesday night.
Malanda is ineligible for the tie, but could be available for the next round if the Wolfsburg deal goes through quickly.
