Fulham look set to miss out on a deal for QPR midfielder Esteban Granero who is poised to join Spanish outfit Real Sociedad.
Cottagers boss Martin Jol, who is also thought to be ready to try and hijack the R's swoop for Tottenham midfielder Scott Parker during this transfer window, had been linked with a bid for the 26-year-old.
Granero only moved to Loftus Road for a reported £9million fee last summer when former boss Mark Hughes handed him a four-year contract. However following the R's drop into the Championship, the Spaniard is looking for a move away and Jol was trying to lure him across west London to Craven Cottage.
But reports suggest that Granero favours a return to his homeland with Real Sociedad and will join them on a season-long loan with a view to a permanent £5million deal.
He is set to be guaranteed first-team football by the Primera Division outfit who recently sold Asier Illarramendi to Real Madrid for £35million.
