Roy Hodgson has confirmed that he wants to sign a left winger for Fulham in January with Cardiff's Joe Ledley top of his list.

The Cottagers boss is desperate to bolster the left side of his squad during the new year window and it appears he will reignite his efforts to sign the Bluebirds 21-year-old Wales international, Ledley, next month with a possible £4million bid.

Zoltan Gera and Clint Dempsey have struggled in that role, while Julian Gray was brought in from Coventry to operate in the position. However Hodgson now wants some quality to come in and make the spot their own.

He said: "We're not ruling out moves because the squad is small. And there are definite areas within the squad where we are short of players and cover players.

"What we've got is good enough - and if we can improve on that we'll definitely do so."
