Fulham look set to miss out on Zakaria Labyad as the Sporting Lisbon winger is poised to return to PSV Eindhoven.
Fulham had been linked with a move for the 20-year-old Moroccan earlier this month with boss Martin Jol understood to be keen on the ex-PSV starlet.
Jol has good connections with Moroccan footballers having brought Adel Taarabt to England in the past, then re-signed him at Fulham.
The ex-Ajax boss also signed Dutch-Moroccan striker Mounir El Hamdoui for Spurs and brought Younes Kaboul, who has Moroccan ancestry, to White Hart Lane.
Labyad will be allowed to leave Sporting Lisbon in the New Year.
But Portuguese newspaper Record claim PSV are already in advanced negotiations with Sporting over a deal and the Morocco international is expected to move when the transfer window re-opens.
Labyad started out at PSV and impressed at the Eredivisie side before moving to Sporting in 2012, although he has failed to make an impact in Portugal.
