McBride wanted back home

FulhamChicago Fire and Toronto FC have emerged as frontrunners to sign USA striker Brian McBride after he left Fulham.

McBride, 36, decided to walk away from Craven Cottage at the end of last season but he has yet to find a new club - and could even figure in this year's Olympics.

"The league, at some point, has to determine whether we get involved," MLS commissioner Don Garber said at a press conference.

"We'll manage through it, like everything else with us. They always come down to the wire and we generally have gotten them resolved.

"The league doesn't want to get involved. I hope we won't get involved. I hope common sense prevails."
