Star pledges to remain a Cottager

FulhamDavid Healy has played down speculation over his future and insists he wants to stay at Fulham and fight for his first-team place.

Following the capture of Bobby Zamora and the likely arrival of Andy Johnson, the Northern Ireland international has been linked with a summer exit from Craven Cottage.

Healy endured a disappointing first season with the Cottagers, scoring just four goals in the Premier League, but the former Leeds man is determined to prove his worth to Roy Hodgson.

Speaking in his column for the Belfast Telegraph, Healy said: "We have brought in new players, including strikers, and there has been talk that I may struggle to make it into the first team.

"Well, I want to say here and now that I am more than happy to stay at Fulham and fight for my place. I do not intend walking away from a battle."

The striker added: "I proved last season when things weren't going well and I wasn't playing that I was willing to knuckle down, work even harder in training and that paid off with me getting back into the manager's plans for the final weeks of the campaign."

"Now my aim is to start the coming season just like I did 12 months ago - scoring goals - and then kick on and have a successful campaign.

"I'm well aware this is a big season for me and I'm up for it, make no mistake about that."
