Former Gillingham boss Andy Hessenthaler has been tipped to succeed if he becomes Brentford manager by Chris Kamara.
Kamara, the former Bradford City boss who now works in the media, told Sky Sports that Hessenthaler has applied for the vacant hotseat.
He said: "I'd like to see the Bees appoint someone like Andy Hessenthaler.
"He did really well during his time at Gillingham and he's still playing himself and after a managerial job.
"I know Andy has applied for it and I'm hoping he gets considered because he is definitely capable of reviving the club."
Hessenthaler, currently a player at Barnet, is one of a small group of serious candidates being considered by the Brentford board this week.
