Charlton Athletic boss Les Reed is planning to make Gillingham starlet Matt Jarvis his first signing when the transfer window opens.

Reed is ready meet the Gills' £900,000 asking price for Jarvis, who has attracted scouts from nearly every Premiership side to Priestfield Stadium

this season.

Watford are also in the hunt to sign the highly-rated midfielder but Reed is hoping that a move to a side closer to home will be enough to land him ahead of the Hornets.

The 20 year-old has already rejected a new deal that would have made him the highest paid player at the club so a move looks to be on the cards. Championship high-flyer's Plymouth Argyle have also failed to tempt him into leaving the League One side.
