Clarke surges back into Cup contention

GolfDarren Clarke has boosted his chances of a Ryder Cup wildcard pick after winning the KLM Open by four shots.

The Northern Irishman had been in fine form in the opening three rounds in Holland and maintained that run on the final day, with a superb round of 66 to finish at 16-under-par.

The Ulsterman claimed his second European Tour title of the season and finished four shots clear of Paul McGinley, who fired a closing 64 to surge past Henrik Stenson, who ended at -11.

Clarke had started the day three shots clear but fell a stroke behind with a bogey at the second, while Stenson birdied the first three holes.

However, the 40-year-old kept his composure to fire three birdies of his own while Stenson stumbled at the seventh and ninth and, once he had re-established the lead, he was never in trouble.

England's Lee Slattery and Scotland's Marc Warren tied for fourth at -9, with Denmark's Soren Hansen and England's Ross McGowan a shot further back.
