Gay pride in Memphis

Brian Gay was delighted after claiming his second tournament win of the year with a five-shot victory at the St Jude Classic.

The American held a one-shot lead going into the last 18 holes in Memphis but fired a final-round 66 to thwart any possible challengers with three birdies in his opening six holes putting daylight between himself and the chasing pack.

David Toms and Bryce Molder finished tied for second on 13-under but Northern Ireland's Graeme McDowell shot the lowest round of the day - a seven-under-par 63 - to finish tied for seventh.

Conditions were difficult at the Tennessee course on the final day with plenty of rain and Gay was happy with the way he dealt with everything to finish on -18 and take the title.

"It was a long course today, even longer than yesterday, really wet and didn't play into my hands at all," he said. "I wasn't happy with all the rain but I managed to get it done. It's been a really great week and I'm really happy."
