Haney tips Tiger to roar back

GolfTiger Woods' coach Hank Haney is certain he will come back stronger from his knee ligament injury and continue to be world number one.

The 32-year-old has been ruled out for the rest of the season, including September's Ryder Cup, as he requires reconstructive knee surgery. And, while some feel it could spell the end of Woods' career as far as being the world's best golfer goes, Haney has hit back to stress that Woods will be back an even better player.

Haney told ESPN Radio: "I wouldn't rate it as any concern. He is going to come back better than he ever was."

Woods' fresh knee problems surfaced during his successful bid to clinch the US Open, via an 18-hole play-off at Torrey Pines earlier this week, his 14th major title. After battling through the pain to win, it was revealed he now needs a fourth operation on his left knee which raised question marks about his future in the sport.

However Haney added: "Now he's going to have a stable knee.

"I just expect it will be such a positive thing for Tiger and his whole career, giving him more time to practice. He has been really limited in what he could do.

"It's really just the snapping of his leg as he comes through the ball.

"This was something we worked on changing some five years ago. We eliminated some of the pressure off Tiger's knee.

"That was the first thing he told me that he felt like he needed to do. He did it. He's been doing that for a long time, swinging a different way for a long time.

"There's no problem making an adjustment like that. He'll be fine. I wouldn't under-estimate anything about Tiger Woods."
