With a win, the 23-year-old could now leap frog Oliver Wilson, Henrik Stenson, Nick Dougherty and Graeme McDowell from 10th place in the Ryder Cup table to sixth.
Wilson and Dougherty are on a week off whilst McDowell missed the cut and Stenson could only manage a round of 72 to keep him at seven-under-par.
Kaymer is now -18 with his closest rival Charl Schwartzel -12 after he carded a round of 66, while English trio Paul Casey, Ross Fisher and Benn Barham are a further shot behind in a share of third place.
