McDowell dreaming of Ryder place

GolfGraeme McDowell has said he is now allowing himself to think of the Ryder Cup after securing the Scottish Open title on Sunday.

The Northern Ireland star finished with a final round of 68, two shots clear of South Africa's James Kingston, with Miguel Angel Jimenez and Richard Green a further shot back.

Simon Khan ruined his own chances by recording two double bogeys in the last six holes to finish at -9.

The winner's cheque of £500,000 lifted the 28-year-old McDowell up from 10th to sixth place in the Ryder Cup standings and he is now letting himself think of being on Nick Faldo's team in September.

"I put the Ryder Cup up there with winning majors," McDowell said. "It's something I have really, really desperately wanted.

"I refused to be measured for my Ryder Cup clothes last week but maybe I will accept next time.

"It's never over till it's over of course, but this is a massive step in the right direction. It will be a dream come true."
