Rory McIlroy is aiming for success in next month's Open at Turnberry following his top-10 finish in the US Open at Bethpage on Monday.

The 20-year-old world number 16 impressed in his final round at the New York course with a 68 to hand him 10th place on his US Open debut and left him only six strokes behind winner Lucas Glover.

McIlroy will now aim to secure a second European Tour title to his collection at this week's BMW International in Munich, while also preparing to go for major glory at The Open which gets underway in just three weeks' time.

"It's another good performance in a major this year and gives me a lot of confidence going into the rest of the season," he said.

"I feel as if I've got the game to contend in majors now and try and compete to win them. The Open is a big target of mine.

"It was a really solid week and I can take a lot from it. It was a great week - and a long one."
