Monty's Ryder Cup hopes in balance

Colin Montgomerie's Ryder Cup hopes hang by a thread after he finished one over par at the Johnnie Walker Championship.

The Scot will now need to be one of the two captain picks if he is to make the European team, with Nick Faldo set to announce his wildcards later.

"If I get selected it'll be fantastic. If I don't I wish the team every success," said the 45-year-old.

Faldo has two wildcard selections and it looks as though Ian Poulter, Darren Clarke, Paul Casey, Martin Kaymer, Ross Fisher, Montgomerie and Nick Dougherty are all keeping their fingers crossed that they will get the nod.

Europe are the defending champions and square up against the United States on September 16 at Valhalla Golf Club in Kentucky.
