No Memorial for Woods

GolfTiger Woods looks set to make his return to competitive action at the US Open after revealing he will not play in Ohio next week.

The world number one had knee surgery after last month's Masters and was hoping to play competitively before the year's second major.

However, that now looks unlikely after Woods told Memorial tournament officials he would not be able to play in the Memorial in Ohio.

That means there is just one other event he could partake in prior to the US Open, which is the Stanford St. Jude Championship in Memphis.

However, the American has never figured in that and looks unlikely to added it to his schedule.

The last time Woods headed directly from the Masters to the US Open was two years ago following the death of his father and he duly missed the cut at the US Open - only the second time in his professional career that has happened at a major.

However, he will still be seen as an overwhelming favourite at Torrey Pines given his liking for the course, where he won the Buick Invitational for a sixth time in January.
