Pettersson on cloud nine

GolfSweden's Carl Petterson equalled the course record to open up a three-shot lead at the Wyndham Championship in Greensboro.

The 30-year-old, who went to school near the course, fired 11 birdies and two bogeys for a nine-under-par 61, and also matched the lowest score for the first 36 holes of a PGA Tour event at 15-under.

Garrett Willis could only match his opening round with a second successive 64 to lie three shots off the pace, one ahead of Scott McCarron and Kevin Streelman a further shot off the pace.

"I'm thrilled with the way I'm playing but you can't relax until Sunday night," Pettersson said.

"I knew at the beginning of the week it was going to be a low scoring week, just because you have a lot of wedges, eight irons and nine irons (and) the two par fives are very reachable."

The only world top 20 player who started the event, Vijay Singh, has failed to make the cut (-3) though after a disappointing two-over par 72 to finish at +1.
