Sabbatini edges ahead in Texas

GolfRory Sabbatini's seven-under-par round of 63 moved him a shot clear of Zach Johnson at the top of the leaderboard at the Texas Open.

The South African struck an eagle, six birdies and one bogey at La Cantera Golf Club's Resort Course to move just ahead of American Johnson, who himself enjoyed a superb day with an eight-under-par round of 62.

It was on the back nine holes that Sabbatini found his best form, after reaching the halfway point of his round at just one-under.

He then eagled the par-four 11th and struck three consecutive birdies from the 13th, before adding another birdie at the final hole to seal his slender lead.

New Zealander Tim Wilkinson, along with US pair Tim Herron and Chris Stroud, are all three strokes back from leader Sabbatini on 11-under-par.
