Van Pelt takes halfway Buick lead

GolfBo Van Pelt leads the Buick Open by two shots at the halfway stage following a second round six-under-par 66.

The 33-year-old, who is looking for a first PGA Tour championship win, started the day level with Corey Pavin and Dudley Hart at the top of the leaderboard. However, starting on the back nine, Van Pelt moved on to 14 under after 36 holes following birdies on five of his first 10 holes before making a birdie at seven during his bogey-free round.

Hart shot a second round four-under 68 and is tied for second with Sweden's Daniel Chopra at 12-under for the tournament at Grand Blanc's Warwick Hills Golf and Country Club. Pavin is now eight shots off the pace after a disappointing two-over 74 to sit on six-under overall.

The 2000 Buick champion Rocco Mediate looks to be still feeling the effects of the recent 19-hole US Open play-off defeat to Tiger Woods after a second round three-under left him down in a tie for 48th at four under.
