Virus ends Westwood's hopes

GolfLee Westwood has been forced to pull of the PGA Championship at Wentworth on Friday morning because of a virus.

The world number 20, who currently leads the European Ryder Cup points standings, lasted just five holes of his second round, having struggled on Thursday with a disappointing first round 77 which left him with work to do to make the cut.

However the virus Westwood has picked up will now see him have a two-week break before the US Open gets underway.

"I had a Chinese meal last night, but I don't think it's something I ate because I've got a sore throat as well. I think it's a virus," he said.

"It started about eight last night and I was sick during the night and hardly got any sleep."
