Wilson confident of nailing Cup place

GolfOliver Wilson remains optimistic of securing a place on the Ryder Cup team at the Johnnie Walker Championship this weekend.

The Mansfield ace lies in tenth place in the standings with just one tournament left before captain Nick Faldo announces his team to travel to Valhalla to defend the trophy.

And the 27-year-old is on the verge of making history as he has yet to win a tournament - something which he hopes to change this weekend.

However, in terms of Ryder Cup qualification there are still three players in contention for the last automatic spot - Martin Kaymer, Ross Fisher and Nick Dougherty.

But Wilson is confident he can not only secure the necessary points but even end his winless streak.

"I'd love to be on the team no matter what, but to be on the team with a win under my belt would be fantastic. I feel I'm ready and hopefully it will be this week," the seven-time runner-up said.

"It's a good position to be in - I'd rather be in my position than one back.

"But it's not going to be easy. If it was I'd have won four or five times by now.

"I'm sure that come Sunday afternoon it's going to be tight. With the quality of players in the mix it will not be a case of thinking that finishing 30th will be enough.

"It's not going to happen - you're going to have to play pretty well."
