Hamilton Academical have opted not to take Reading defender Tom Hateley on loan after having at look at him.
Hateley has been training with the SPL new boys in an attempt to earn a temporary contract from boss Billy Reid.
However, after his trial spell was initially delayed due to a bout of mumps, he played several trial matches but failed to do enough to win a short-term deal.
"Tom has gone back to Reading," Reid told the Daily Record. "It didn't work out and we wish him all the best. It was a football decision and these things happen in football."
