Jim Jefferies has indicated that Jose Goncalves will move on from Hearts this summer, saying the defender is 'resigned' to leaving.

The Portuguese ace is due to run out of contract at Tynecastle at the end of the season and is understood to have told Jefferies that he has no plans to sign a new deal.

Goncalves was left out of Tuesday's Co-operative Insurance Cup semi-final defeat by St Mirren and Jefferies revealed he has held talks with the player.

Jefferies told the BBC: "I have had a word with Jose and I think he is resigned to leaving the club.

"I would rather work with players who want to play for Hearts than players who don't want to be here. He said he won't be here."
