Hull boss Steve Bruce is said to be fuming with West Brom after they pulled the plug on Shane Long's £5million move to the KC Stadium.
Bruce thought he had pulled off a surprise swoop for the striker only for the Baggies to say he was not for sale 70 minutes before Monday night's deadline.
The Tigers had gone to great expense and effort to make the deal happen only to be left frustrated at the 11th hour. Hull funded a private jet to fly Long from Dublin, where he was based with the Republic of Ireland squad, to Leeds Bradford airport, where he was met by Bruce who quickly agreed personal terms with the player.
Long then had a medical at a Leeds hospital before driving to the Hull training ground where he was about to put pen-to-paper before West Brom said no to the deal.
Baggies boss Steve Clarke made the decision after it became clear Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku was heading to Everton, not the Hawthorns, and he did not want to be left short.
To make matters worse for Bruce, Albion then signed another player he targeted, Victor Anichebe from Everton, to leave him completely empty-handed.
