Roberto Martinez has defended the tackles put in by midfielder Gareth Barry against Hull after he was criticised by Steve Bruce.
Barry was maybe fortunate to get away without a yellow card in his first mistimed challenge against Danny Graham and the second one on Sone Aluko could have been a red, and should have been according to Bruce, who called it "horrific".
Martinez did not see it that way though, and believes the conditions - it was pouring with rain throughout the game - contributed to the challenges.
He said: "I think there were a few challenges due to the conditions - the rain made the pitch quicker and faster - and I thought the referee understood.
"I think Gareth gets the ball and then it slips away and I thought the decision to give a yellow card was right considering that was the level given to other challenges in the game."
