Derby say Hull have yet to make a move for striker Conor Sammon following reports the Tigers are keen on the player.
Steve Bruce is switching to other strike targets after a move for Charlie Austin collapsed over a failed medical and both Sammon and Carlton Cole are reported to be on his wanted list.
Sammon may have struggled at Wigan in the Premier League but he impressed when firing home nine goals for the Rams in the Championship last season and caught the eye of Bruce.
Despite rumours of a £2million bid, Derby boss Nigel Clough insists no-one from Hull has made a move yet.
"We haven't heard anything. We've had no contact from Hull," said Clough.
Meanwhile, Bruce says he will not be rushed in his search for a striker and has also ruled out a move for Celtic's Gary Hooper.
"I could go and get 10 strikers tomorrow if I wanted but they've got to meet a certain criteria for what we're looking for," said Bruce.
"There's no point in us rushing out and buying someone for the sake of it, we've got to be patient."
