Stoke are planning to hijack Hull's attempts to land Burnley striker Charlie Austin and are ready to offer £5million.
The Clarets are resigned to losing the striker who has bagged an impressive 82 goals in 155 appearances since arriving from Swindon and an orderly queue is starting to form as Premier League clubs battle for his services.
Hull boss Steve Bruce has the 23-year-old high on his wanted list as he bids to sign a new striker, but reports now claim that Stoke boss Mark Hughes is in the hunt.
Hughes would have to move players out first though and he is keen to cash in on Cameron Jerome or Kenwyne Jones to fund a deal, while the future of Peter Crouch is by no means certain.
The fact Stoke have to sell first makes Hull favourites as Bruce is able to move quickly and could pip his former Manchester United team-mate to the signing.
