Hull City and West Brom are vying for the chance to sign Manchester City midfielder Dietmar Hamann in January.

Reports claim the 34-year-old German could be made available by City boss Mark Hughes as he bids to bring in another defensive midfielder with the vast transfer war-chest that the club's Abu Dhabi-based owners are providing.

Hamann, who has made only two Premier League starts this season, signed a one-year contract extension in February and will soon enter the final seven months of his current deal.

Tigers boss Phil Brown is looking to add experience to his midfield and could offer Hamann an attractive package as the club look to consolidate their Premier League future and flirt with the idea of European football.

West Brom are also interested, but Baggies boss Tony Mowbray faces a tough job in persuading established top-flight stars to join with the prospect of relegation looming over The Hawthorns.
