Los Che wing ace faces surgery wait

Intnl FootballValencia are set to wait two weeks before deciding if their star winger David Silva requires surgery on an ankle injury.

The 22-year-old has been ruled out of Spain's World Cup qualifying double-header this week due to the problem he suffered while in training with the national team.

And, having now returned to Valencia, the club doctors are waiting to see if the extent of the damage suffered will require an operation.

Silva picked up a similar ankle injury almost a year ago and it is hoped that this latest problem is not an aggravation of that.

However the Primera Liga club's coaching staff are willing to wait a fortnight before deciding if surgery is required because that would mean an extended lay-off.

If there has been no improvement in Silva's condition then he will have to go under the surgeon's knife as Valencia are keen to avoid a repeat of the trouble they had with former star man Vicente.

The winger's career has been in the doldrums since 2004 and he has publicly blamed Los Che for failing to treat a chronic ankle ailment properly as the reason for that.
