Rio slams Cole abuse

Intnl FootballRio Ferdinand has slammed the England fans that booed Ashley Cole on Saturday, insisting those supporters should be 'ashamed'.

It was Cole's shocking error that lead to Zhambyl Kukeyev scoring for Kazakhstan when the score was 2-0 to England, with a section of the home support then making their feelings known every time the Chelsea full-back touched the ball.

England responded though and eventually ran out 5-1 winners, but one of the main talking points was the treatment of Cole and Ferdinand, captain in the absence of John Terry, feels it was out of order.

The Manchester United defender said: "It's disappointing. When any player makes a mistake all you want to do is get behind him and gee him up and make sure with his next touch that he gets his confidence back and plays himself back into the game.

"It doesn't help when the fans are booing one of their own players. Hopefully the people have gone home and may feel a bit ashamed of themselves."
