Although England were far from their best and were held for the opening 50 minutes, Capello's men eventually wore down their opponents and ran out comfortable victors with Wayne Rooney (2), Rio Ferdinand and Jermain Defoe on the scoresheet, with England's other coming from an own goal.
Fans looking to use their £25 free bet on England lifting the World Cup in 2010 will not have been impressed, but Capello was keen to point out that the results are the only thing thing that matters.
The Italian said: "I am happy for the result and especially the second half.
"The result was the all important thing and we got a good win. We have nine points now from three games and have scored plenty of goals. It's job done."
England's next challenge is on Wednesday when they make the journey to Belarus, who have won one and lost one of their two qualifiers to date.
