Ipswich's on-loan striker DJ Campbell will return to parent club QPR after their New Year's Day clash with Brighton at Portman Road.

Mick McCarthy is still keen on securing Town's top scorer on a permanent basis but he will be back training with his Premier League team-mates on Thursday morning ahead of their FA Cup tie with West Brom on Saturday.

"I have spoken to Harry (Redknapp) and he justifiably wants to have a look at him so DJ will be going back to QPR," McCarthy told the club's official website.

"We will have to wait and see what develops from there. I have spoken to DJ. He is enjoying it here and we want to keep him. I have offered him what amounts to a permanent deal and hopefully something can be sorted out."

The former Blackpool striker scored 10 times in just 16 appearances for the Tractor Boys but will now boost QPR's attacking options after injuries to Bobby Zamora and Andrew Johnson.
